Dental Hygiene
A Dental Hygienist is a proficient healthcare provider who collaborates with Dentists to assist patients in maintaining optimal oral health.
The Dental Hygienist fulfills two primary roles:
-
Serving as a clinician by treating and preventing gum (periodontal) disease.
-
Acting as an educator to instruct and encourage patients in the management of their oral hygiene.
Our Hygienists are well-equipped to offer personalised guidance on various oral health procedures, tailored to individual requirements, while also demonstrating the correct techniques for effective implementation.
The recommended actions for oral care encompass the following:
-
Utilising floss or interdental brushes to clean between teeth effectively.
-
Employing a manual or electric toothbrush for thorough tooth brushing.
-
Ensuring proper cleaning around dental appliances like braces, implants, crowns, and bridges.

Furthermore, dental professionals can provide tailored product recommendations to facilitate these practices. They can also evaluate your dietary habits and offer pertinent advice to deter tooth decay and safeguard against enamel erosion.

In addition to specialised dental care, our Hygienists are equipped to address broader oral health concerns, such as aiding in smoking cessation. These professionals often serve as the primary health advocates with the time to engage in meaningful discussions on these critical topics with patients.

Regular visits to your dental hygienist represent a crucial step in preventing gum disease and tooth decay. Your hygienist plays a vital role in assisting you in preserving excellent oral hygiene, identifying potential diseases at their onset, and preempting any future oral health issues.

The frequency of dental appointments is tailored to each patient's unique oral health needs. During the initial treatment phase, the Dentist may advise some patients to schedule appointments with the Hygienist every two, three, or four weeks to address any existing issues effectively.
Subsequent appointments will be determined based on individual requirements, with recalls scheduled at monthly, three-monthly, or six-monthly intervals as necessary.
